Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play a crucial role in addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges within communities. In Zaria Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, NGOs have been instrumental in providing essential services such as education, healthcare, and environmental conservation. However, the success and outreach of these organizations often depend on their ability to mobilize resources, engage stakeholders, and communicate effectively with the public. With the rise of digital media, NGOs in Zaria have the opportunity to enhance their visibility, expand their outreach, and engage with donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries more effectively. Digital media tools such as social media platforms, websites, and mobile apps have transformed how NGOs operate by facilitating real-time communication, fundraising, and advocacy campaigns. This study aims to explore how NGOs in Zaria utilize digital media to support their operations, enhance public awareness, and increase their impact in addressing local challenges.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although NGOs in Zaria have made significant contributions to community development, many face challenges in reaching wider audiences, attracting donors, and engaging with volunteers and other stakeholders. Traditional methods of outreach, such as print media and word-of-mouth, have limitations in terms of reach and efficiency. Digital media offers a powerful tool for NGOs to overcome these barriers, but the extent to which NGOs in Zaria are utilizing these tools effectively remains unclear. This study will examine the role of digital media in supporting NGOs in Zaria, focusing on how these organizations use digital platforms to advance their missions and engage with their target audiences.
